Pierre Peliscien, a French Canadian, arrived a couple of years before Felicia Fallas came, and settled near the mouth of Platte creek on what is now the Crosby ranch, where he and his Indian wife lived until his death some fifteen years ago. He farmed three or four acres, had a few cows, a few pigs and a few chickens, farming with oxen. His grave can still be seen on the slope east of the creek not far from the artesian well half way up the hillside. Peliscien was a giant in stature and as strong as he was large. His intellectual abilities were limited and his education still more so. Many stories are still told by the pioneers of his immense physical strength. He was ordinarily of quiet disposition but a man to be feared when angered.
