Wood, familiarly known as "Joe" Wood, came here about the time the Whetstone agency was established. He lived opposite the Mulehead for some years and in the seventies moved to his present home six miles south of Geddes. His name appears on the ticket in 1880 for constable, but he has had little to do with politics. His wife was a Yankton Sioux and he was probably the first in the county to probate inherited Indian land.
