Dak., in 1900 and was employed as a railroad freight brakeman 1903-1906, as a freight conductor 1906-1911, and as a passenger conductor 1911-1932; member of the State house of representatives in 1922 and 1923; served as the chairman of the South Dakota Game and Fish Commission 1927-1931; elected as a Democrat to the Seventy-third, Seventy-fourth, and Seventy-fifth Congresses (March 4, 1933- January 3, 1939); was not a candidate for renomination in 1938, but was an unsuccessful candidate for the Democratic nomination for United States Senator; unsuccessful candidate for election in 1942 to the Seventy-eighth Congress; delegate to the Democratic National Convention at Chicago in 1944; retired from active business life and resided at Watertown, S. Dak.; died in Bradenton, Fla., January 26, 1956; interment in Mount Hope Cernetery, Watertown, S. Dak.
