CHARLES LEMUEL EAKIN, the owner of a finely improved ranch of sixteen hundred acres, near Blunt, Hughes county, is a native of Illinois, having been born in Indianola, Vermillion county, on the 2d of August, 1865, and being a son of Edmond W. and Ellen M. Eakin. He was afforded the advantages of the excellent public schools of his native state, completing his specific scholastic discipline in the high school at Danville. He continued to reside in Illinois until 1883, when he came to what was then the territory of Dakota, and here he has achieved prosperity and independence and gained prestige as one of the able business men and influential citizens of his home county, where he is held in high esteem by all who know him. In politics Mr. Eakin is a stalwart adherent of the Republican party, and in a social way he is affiliated with the Masonic fraternity, the Ancient Order of United Workmen and the Knights of the Maccabees. On the 11th of November, 1891, Mr. Eakin was united in marriage to Miss Etta J. Sheldon, who was born in Eyota, Olmsted county, Minnesota, in 1865, and whose death occurred on the 14th of May, 1892. She was a daughter of Porter G. and Caroline Sheldon, who were numbered among the pioneers of Minnesota. On the 8th of July, 1895, the subject consummated a second marriage, being then united to Miss Lelia Bailey, who was born in Rochester, Illinois, on the 8th of March, 1870, being a daughter of Emory and Lucinda Bailey. Mr. Eakin has three children one of whom was born of the first marriage. and two of the second, namely: Etta S., Russell L. and Muriel.
