PENNINGTON, fifth territorial governor, was a native of North Carolina, and a printer by occupation. He remained in his native state until his appointment to the governorship by President Grant in 1874. He served four years with credit, and continued to reside in Yankton until 1891, when he returned to the South and established himself in the newspaper business at North Anniston, Alabama.
