SCHMIDT, of Tea, Lincoln county, South Dakota, is a native of Germany and was born February 22, 1853. He was brought to America when quite young, and lived with his parents until young manhood, the meanwhile attending at intervals the public schools of Wisconsin, where he lived until 1873. In the latter year he accompanied the family to Lincoln county, South Dakota, where he married Miss Emma Erb, and immediately thereafter moved into a half section of land in Perry township, where he carried on agriculture and stock raising with encouraging success until the year 1895, when he disposed of his farm and took up his residence in the village of Tea. Since the latter year Mr. Schmidt has been proprietor of a general store in the above town, and he now commands an extensive and lucrative patronage, being one of the most enterprising and successful business men in the northwest part of Lincoln county. He carries a full stock of merchandise demanded by the general trade, manages his affairs with excellent judgment and occupies a prominent place in commercial circles.
