SKILLING is a native of the state of Wisconsin, having been born in Green county, on the 2d of March, 1860, and being a son of Ransom and Nancy (Hills) Skilling. The subject remained in Iowa until 1884, when he came to what is now the state of South Dakota and located on his present homestead, taking up one hundred and sixty acres of government land, in the rich bottom lands of the Missouri river valley, while later he purchased an adjoining eighty acres. He has since been successfully engaged in farming and stock raising and is one of the substantial and highly respected citizens of the county which has been his home for so many years.
