The firm of Abraham Brothers of which this gentleman is a member, is well known in the vicinity of Claremont, in which village they conduct a general merchandise store, and handle lumber and farm machinery. Our subject also has extensive farming interests near the village,. and resides on his estate. He is one of the prominent young men of Brown county, and enjoys a large patronage in his business, the store being the largest in Claremont. Mr. Abraham was born in Chisago county, Minnesota, September 14, 1856, and was the second child of a family of seven born to Carl and Beatrice Abraham, both of whom were natives of Sweden. When a youth he began teaching school and followed it some years. February 14, 1882, he went to Watertown, South Dakota, and soon afterward located land in Brown county, and engaged in farming. He became identified with the early history of the town of Groton, and was prominent in public affairs in that town. In company with his brother he established a clothing store at Langford, Dakota, in 1889, and went to his present location in 1895. His farming interests were meanwhile maintained, and the farm now comprises over one thousand acres. Mr. Abraham was elected county treasurer in 1892, and served two terms. He conducted the business of the county with a oneness of purpose commendable to him, and gained the confidence and esteem of his associates and the people whom he represented. His varied business interests do not deter him from working when necessary for the public good, and every plan which is feasible receives his hearty support. He remains unmarried and makes his home on the farm, which is supplied with modern conveniences, and good farm buildings. In political belief he is a Republican, and a man who keeps pace with the world, and in all matters is loyal to the convictions of right, thus gaining an enviable reputation, and incidentally gathering around him a fortune to tide him through his declining years. His business methods are concise, and the strictest honesty enters into his dealings, giving him a large and ever increasing patronage. Honesty and good citizenship, are the characteristics which mark the prosperous man, and prosperity is every man's aim.
