His father is living at the age of ninety-one years. His mother died in 1898, at the age of eighty-six years. When sixteen years of age Rev. Hoffman began a classical course at Osnabrueck, and in 1886 emigrated to America and resumed his studies in St. Meinrad's College, Indiana. In 1894 he was ordained priest, and given charge of the church in White Lake. For the first three years of his labors, he presided over twelve other churches or missions, and consequently could not give the time and attention to the White Lake church which it so much needed, but since his labors have been confined to St. Peter's church the membership is on the increase, and their leader is regarded with affectionate esteem.
