McGREGOR, auditor of McCook county, South Dakota, and assistant cashier of the McCook County State Bank at Salem, is one of the rising young business men of this section of the state. He is but twenty-four years of age, having been born in Butler county, Iowa, June 29, 1874 Our subject was given the advantages of an excellent education, and graduated from the Clarksville High School, in 1891. At the age of eighteen years he located in Spencer South Dakota, and within a year had established himself as assistant cashier of the State Bank of Spencer. He remained in this position for three years, receiving the practical business' education afforded by a bank. His accuracy and readiness, combined with his honesty, gained him the esteem of his employers, and the community at large, and in 1895 he obtained his present position, as assistant cashier of McCook County State Bank. The fact of his popularity is best established by the success of his candidacy for auditor of McCook county, when in 1898 he was called upon to fill this important public office, and was elected on the Republican ticket by a good majority over a popular fusionist. Mr. McGregor is the son of James A. and Hannah (McWilliams) McGregor, and was the seventh of a family of eight children. His father is of Scotch descent, and his mother is a native of Ireland. They are both living, and our subject attends to the landed interest of his father, who has retired from active farm life. In 1894 our subject was married to Miss Lizzie M. Buch, who is of German descent, and the: daughter of a pioneer merchant of Spencer. Mr. and Mrs. McGregor are the parents of two children, a daughter, upon whom they have bestowed the name of Lulu Leon, and Rodney J. Mr. McGregor is a member of the Knights of Pythias Lodge, No. 60.
