RASMUSSON, an agriculturist of Spring Valley township, in Clark county, where he is tilling the soil on. section 14, is a gentleman whose indomitable will has forced him into a comfortable income. He has had many a discouraging feature to overcome, and it is not without. frequent losses that he has finally met with a fair degree of success. He is a farmer who understands his calling, and has striven in every way possible to bring prosperity, and, had he given up the struggle many years ago, it would have been only the course pursued by many another of less persistency. He is now engaging in mixed farming, also operates a threshing machine, and has a home, as the result of his industry, in which he can enjoy the fruits of his labors. Our subject was born in Vernon county, Wisconsin, April 30. 1859 and was the second child and oldest son born to Ole and Marit (Paulson) Rasmusson. His father now resides at the home of our subject, and operates a blacksmith shop. Peter O. worked at farming in Wisconsin and three years at clerking, and in the fall of 1887 he went to Dakota with the intention of clerking, or perhaps embarking in the mercantile business for himself. He was persuaded to try farming instead, and located on his present land. Prairie fire destroyed his grain in the shock in 1890, and in 1896 he had his crops hailed out. Drought has also been a discouraging feature of his life on the farm. Our subject was married, in 1888, to Miss Oliana M. Kolbo. Five children have been born to Mr. and Mrs. Rasmusson, as follows: Harry Otto, Irene M., Olga P., John M. and Marvin Julian. Mr. Rasmusson is a member of the Lutheran church. He is prominent in public affairs of local import, and is chairman of the township central committee of the Republican party. and also a member of the county central committee. He is an advocate of prohibition, and has put forth efforts along that line. He is opposed to equal suffrage. The community recognizes in this gentleman a man of strong convictions for right in whatever form it is put, and he is an ardent worker for the best principles, as he views them from his point of observation. He is among the younger members of his community, and is destined to gain in popularity, and become known throughout the state as one of the citizens of Clark county who is ready at all times to further the good of the people of his state. His career has been marked throughout with persistent efforts, and the successful man, in whatever vocation engaged, is the man of push and energy.
