SEARLE, of the firm of Fletcher & Searle, editors and proprietors of the "State Democrat," of Aberdeen, South Dakota, was born in Chicago, Illinois, March 4, 1874 and is a son of J. T. and Elizabeth (Thayers) Searle, natives of England, who, on first coming to America, in 1873, located in Chicago. The father died in 1886, but the mother still survives, and all of their eight children are living. In 1877 our subject accompanied the family on their removal to Page county, Iowa, and in 1884 returned with them to England. On again coming to the New World they settled in Aberdeen, South Dakota, where at the age of thirteen years our subject entered the office of the "Daily News" to learn the printer's trade. In 1893 he became connected with the "State Democrat," of which he is now one of the proprietors. He is a member of the State Press Association and a Democrat in politics.
