BOOTH, cashier of the Moody County Bank, Flandreau. This bank was organized as a private bank in 1881, and was owned by Walter Hurlbut, F. E. Gooding and T. H. McCornell, cashier and resident partner. April 9, 1891, the present owners took possession and reorganized it August 20, 1891, and incorporated it as a state bank. Its officers then were Jesse A. Smith, president; B. Miller, vice-president; G. E. Pettigrew, cashier. The bank continued under these officers until July 3, T 894, when H. A. Booth was appointed cashier. They do a general banking business, with capital of twenty-five thousand dollars. Mr. H. A. Booth, the cashier, is a native of Candor, Tioga county, New York, and a son of Anson H. and Lucia M. (Hart) Booth, both natives of New York state. The father was a lumberman until the spring of T 87 T, when he went out of the business. He was killed the following September on a train on the way to New York City with sheep. Mr. Booth was thirty-three years of age at the time of his death. Mrs. Booth now resides with her son in Flandreau, South Dakota. They were the parents of two children: Cora H., wife of Jesse A. Smith, and H. A. H. A. Booth, the subject of this sketch, was born April 20, 1868, and grew to manhood in Tioga county, New York. He was educated at Candor, and also at Cornell university, Ithaca, New York, from which he was a graduate in the class of 1892. In July of the same year he came to Flandreau and entered the Moody County Bank, with which he has since been connected. June 6, 1894, Mr. Booth was united in marriage to Miss Nellie Esty Henderson, also a native of Candor, New York, and a daughter of Jesse W. and Caroline (Baker) Henderson. She was born October 1, 1870, and was educated at Candor college, Aurora, New York. Mrs. Booth died June 2, 1895, and was buried on the first anniversary of her marriage, leaving one son, Henry Anson, Jr. Mr. Booth attends religious services in the Methodist church, as did also his wife during her life. Our subject is a member of the Masonic fraternity, and holds memberships in the following lodges: Blue lodge, chapter, commandery and Eastern Star, of Flandreau, and the consistory at Yankton. He is senior warden in the blue lodge, high priest in the chapter, captain-general in the commandery. He is also a member of the Delta Phi Society and has been treasurer of same. All matters pertaining to the business welfare of Flandreau have met with his earnest support, and he is always willing to lend a helping hand for the development of the resources of Moody county. He has built up an enviable reputation for integrity of character and uprightness in business methods, and is highly esteemed as an exemplary citizen. Politically he is independent.
