Biography of F. E. Dutton F. E. DUTTON. - Brookings county has few more energetic or wide-awake men among the younger members of its business population than this gentleman. His name will be readily recognized by the citizens of Volga and vicinity as a prominent dealer in groceries, etc. Mr. Dutton was born at Medford, Minnesota, February 14, 1874. In the spring of 1880, he moved with his parents to Lake Preston, South Dakota, where he attended the district school and acquired a fair education. He worked with his father on the farm and also did a great deal of hunting, and was an expert and particularly fond of the latter occupation. This soon became a part of his business, and the bounty on the wolves which he has killed in a single day has amounted to over thirty-two dollars. April 26, 1897, Mr. Dutton settled in Volga and at once started a store which he fairly stocked with groceries, notions, confectioneries, tobacco and fruits, and keeps a first-class well-regulated store. Mr. Dutton is an exemplary young man of temperate habits and is highly respected. As a citizen he is loyal in his adherence to the principles of right government, and as a friend and benefactor he has gained an enviable reputation, and has planted himself firmly in the esteem and confidence of his fellow-citizens. His father and mother now reside in Volga, moving there from Lake Preston together with the subject of this sketch. The father, W. A. Dutton, is a native of Canada, born November l2, 1843, and the mother, who bore the maiden name of Mary S. Else, was born in McHenry county, Illinois, February 25, 1846. Politically the entire family endorses the policy of the Republican party.
