LINDSKOG, one of the successful business men of Brookings county and its present sheriff, has been a resident thereof since 1878. He was born in Ljungby, Sweden, May 26, 1863, and is a son of Anders and Kaysa Peterson, both natives of the same locality. Anders Peterson was a dealer in real estate and also bought and sold horses and other live stock. In 1871 he moved with his family to America and located at Mankato, Minnesota, and in 1878 came to Brookings county, South Dakota, where he died in 1885 at the age of seventy-two years. He was an intelligent and progressive citizen and filled public positions in his native country. After coming to America he lived a life of retirement. His faithful wife died at Mankato, Minnesota, in 1877, at the age of fifty-five years. Gustav A. Lindskog, the subject of this sketch, received his education in the public school at Mankato and the C. C. Curtis Business college at St. Paul, Minnesota. At the age of twelve years he began work on the construction of the C., St. P., M. & O. railroad, and has been employed in a similar manner much of the time since. In 1885 he took a contract on the line of the Chicago & Northwestern railroad between Brookings and Castlewood, and has filled other contracts for that company. He has also filled contracts for the Illinois Central and the Great Northern railroads, and has built portions of the latter road as far west as the Rocky mountains. In the fall of 1894 he was elected sheriff of Brookings county and re-elected in 1896, the duties of that office now occupying the most of his time. He also owns a section of farm land in Oakwood township which he rents. Our subject was united in marriage in 1894 to Miss Nellie Brown, daughter of Frank Brown, of Des Moines, Iowa, now of Council Bluffs, Iowa. She was born near Kasson, Minnesota. Fraternally Mr. Lindskog affiliates with the I. O. O. F.. Iocal lodge, the Modern Woodmen of America, and the Ancient Order of United Workmen; while he and his wife are both members of the Rebeccas and the Degree of Honor. Mr. Lindskog was reared in the Lutheran faith, but Mrs. Lindskog is a Methodist.
