ANDERSON, an influential and popular citizen of Castlewood, is the auditor of Hamlin county. He was born on a farm near Highland, Fillmore county, Minnesota, February 20, 1868. His father, Martin Anderson, was born in Norway and migrated to America in an early day. He lived for a short time near Beloit, Wisconsin, and removed from there to Fillmore county, Minnesota, settling near Lanesboro, where he still lives on the farm he bought at the time of his settlement there. He was married in Wisconsin to Miss Bertha Dicken, a native of Norway, who was born in 1841 and died in Minnesota in 1881. To this union was born eleven children, of whom our subject is the sixth. The father subsequently married Mary Leverson, and three daughters have been born to them. Oliver E. Anderson, the subject of this sketch, lived with his parents until he was eighteen years of age. In 1886 he went to Hamlin county, South Dakota, where his first position was that of deputy postmaster at Estelline. He remained there but a short time, however, until he was appointed deputy county treasurer, which position he held for five years. He then became bookkeeper in the Merchants Bank at Bryant, and was thus engaged for two years. After that he returned to Estelline and entered into the real-estate and insurance business, continuing the same until the fall of 1896, when he was elected county auditor. Mr. Anderson was married in DeSoto, Wisconsin, March 16, 1893, to Miss Hattie R. Lawrie. Mrs. Anderson was born in St. Lawrence county, New York, June 6, 1867, and is a daughter of Walter K. and Delia E. Lawrie. To this union have been born two children, Gladys and Bessie, the former born in Bryant and the latter in Estelline. Mr. Anderson is a Mason and also a member of the Modern Woodmen fraternity. He has an excellent business education and well equipped for the battle of life. Although he is still a young man, he has met with marked success in his various undertakings and has attained a position of considerable prominence, and can justly look forward to a brilliant and successful future when his influence and service shall be felt in much larger fields.
