The country known as the Black Hills embraces a large area in the southwestern part of the state. It is one of the richest mining sections in the world, having produced many millions in gold. It is also a great agricultural section, certain portions being put under irrigation produced largely in all the cereal grains. See Deadwood and Lead for names of principal mines.
