Book Title: Doane Robinson's Encyclopedia Of South Dakota

  American Island is a fine island in the Missouri River, granted to Chamberlain
for recreation purposes by the U. S. in its "enabling act" creating the State of
S. D. The Chamberlain Country Club has its clubhouse and golf course on it. Fort
Recovery, 1822, was located upon the south end of it
