Here he grew to young manhood, and here he learned the tailor trade, before coming to this country at 25 years of age. He located at Scotland, S. D. where he worked at his trade and after two years went to Yankton, S. D. where he was married to miss Lydia Dittmar, on November 23, 1889. Leaving Yankton they came to March, S.D. where they lived for three years, when they moved to Tyndall, S.,D. which was their home for some years, coming from there to Geddes. S.D.where they homesteaded south of town. They finally settled at Wheeler, S. D. and it was here his wife passed away on Dec. 23, 1943. Mr. Pavlis joined the church before coming to this country. He became a member of the Congregational church in Tyndall, and transferred to the Congregational church in Geddes, and became a member of the Geddes Communtty Methodist church when the two churches united. His long life was lived in the Christian faith which meant a great deal to him. Mr. Pavlis has been in poor health for some time, but he was taken suddenly ill with pneumonia, and in spite of loving care, he passed away at his home, Monday morning at the age of 83 years, one month and 38 days. He leaves to deeply mourn his depareture, two sons, Edwin and John with whom he made his home, and one daughter, Anna; Mrs Earl Steward, all of Wheeler, S.D. Three brothers, Jhn and Wesley of Lake Andes, S. D. and Dr. Anton of Kansas city, KS, and one sister, Mrs. Albert Kolecka of Geddes, S. D.Funeral services were held thursday afternoon from the communty church with Rev. Proper, preaching the funeral sermon. Pall bearers were: Bert Vanderburgh, Bob Kemper, Jasper Phillips, Forrest Scott, Frank Gross, Fred Cooper. Burial was made in Pleasant Lawn Cemetery.
