(1897) Author: Geo. Ogle & Co. SIMON L. SOLOMON. This venerable old gentleman who makes his home in section 2, Fairview township, Clay county, was born in Somerset county, Penn., September 15, 1812. His parents, William and Hannah (Rhodes) Solomon, were natives of New Jersey and Pennsylvania, respectively, and both died in Fayette county, of the latter state. Of the eleven children born to them, Simon L. was the fourth. He was reared in his native place, and during his more mature years, worked at farm labor and other occupations as a means of livelihood. In 1851 he left the Keystone state for the west, and after living for short periods of time in various counties in Iowa, finally settled in Muscatine county, of that state, where he continued to reside with his family until he came to Dakota territory, which was in the fall of 1868. He homesteaded 160 acres at that time in section 2, of Fairview township, and this property is still his home. Good improvements of a substantial order, have been made, and the estate is in excellent condition, both as regards cultivation and appearance. Mr. Solomon was married in his native county, in Pennsylvania, April 10, 1842, to Miss Martha King, who was also born in Somerset county, March 7, 1823. Mrs. Solomon is the fourth child of a family of eleven children born to Lemuel L. and Mary (Prinkey) King, and by her union with our subject, has become the mother of six children, of whom we note as follows: Mary, Jonathan K., Lemuel K., Hannah A., the wife of David P. Melton, William M. and Simon W. File at: http://files.usgwarchives.net/sd/clay/bios/solomon399gbs.txt This file has been created by a form at http://www.genrecords.org/sdfiles/ File size: 2.2 Kb
