(1897) Author: Geo. Ogle & Co. GEORGE W. WOODWORTH is prosperously pursuing his calling as a farmer in Spirit Mound township, Clay county, where he is held in high esteem for his good citizenship. He is a native of Wisconsin, the place of his birth being in Prairie du Sac, Sauk county, and the date thereof October 3, 1843. H's father and mother, Samuel and Julia (Skinner) Woodworth, were married in the Badger state, and there lived until 1857, at which time they removed to Freeborn county, Minn., and in 1870 came from there to Clay county, Dak. Ter. They located in Spirit Mound township, and there both passed from time to eternity. Of the family of seven sons and three daughters born to Mr. and Mrs. Woodworth, our subject was the seventh. He passed his early life in his native county, being thirteen years of age when he accompanied his parents to Minnesota, and in the latter state he continued to reside until 1S66, when he left the parental roof and started further west. He spent some time in Montana, and remained on the Pacific coast and in the western country till the spring of 1869, at which time he arrived in Dakota territory, and in May, of the same year, purchased a tract of land in Spirit Mound township, which is a part of his present estate. His landed possessions at the present time foot up 880 acres, and on this property he has made some valuable improvements. Mr. Woodworth was married in Yankton county, October 18, 1874, to Miss Perrilla Morey, a daughter of the late Milton Morey, who was an old settler of Yankton county. Mrs. Woodworth was born in Livingston county, N. Y., and by her marriage to our subject has become the mother of five living children, viz.: Milton M., Elsie P., Raymond F., Harry L. and Lloyd J. Two children died in infancy. Mr. Woodworth has been a member of the town board, and has also served as township treasurer, and in all local matters takes a prominent part.
