General order No. 9. To the officers and men of the second regiment: -- Soldiers; The roll of one of the Companies of our regiment has been called and it is found that a comrade is absent-- absent, but accounted for. He has been ordered by a Higher authority to report for duty, among the countless army of the dead. The sad report has been made to these Headquarters of the death of our comrade, James P. Howard, of Co. "H." The hand of death has for the first time visited the "Second." It is hereby ordered that the armory and flag of each Company be suitably draped in mourning for a period of fifteen days from January 8th, 1886 as a mark of respect for the memory of our departed Comrade.
