Letcher's crystal wedding An occasion of rare social enjoyment Elegant gifts Fifteen years ago on the 23d of November, 1870, Mr. and Mrs. Orlando T. Letcher joined hands to pursue their matrimonial journey together, and Monday evening their elegant home was thrown open to their friends in commemoration of this event. The invitations were for tea at seven o'clock and an informal social time after. Quite a number of regrets were received, but the parlors and dining-room were thronged, nonwithstanding. A dazzling array of remembrances from the friends, appropriate to the occasion, was displayed, as below: Placque clock from Mrs. O.T. After all were gathered the wedding march was played, and Mr. and Mrs. Letcher conducted to the parlor, where Rev. Mr. Pardee, in a happy little speech bound them anew in their mutual covenant. The ceremony was completed by the bestowal of a beautiful pearl ring on the bride of years ago by the groom who stood by her side that day, less an embarrassed and self-assured than he appeared on this occasion. This is no place for the conventional remarks about "an enjoyable occasion for all present." The evening was marked by an absence of formality and a genial interchange of social good will, the guests departing at 10 o'clock with expressions of hearty good-will to their hosts. The following telegram from Mr. and Mrs. C.M. Cooke, of Sandusky, Ohio, the latter a sister of Mrs. Letcher: Accept congratulations. May you live to celebrate the full series. To which can be added: "so say we all of us." This file has been created by a form at http://www.genrecords.org/sdfiles/ File size: 4.2 Kb
