Birth record found at the Butler County, IA Courthouse, Allison, IA: Frankie Baedker, born May 23, 1880. White male; 7th child; Medical attendant: Jamison (midwife from Union Ridge, IA.); place of birth: Pittsford Township, Butler County, Iowa. Father's name: Henry Baedker, age 39, German. Father's birthplace: Michlinburs, Germany. Mother's name: Ida Biadker, age 32. Mother's maiden name: Price (spelled Pris) and her nationality: German. All three were residents of Butler County, Iowa. (copied as written on certificate so spellings are in error) Frank Joseph Badker can be found in the 1880, 1885 censuses at Pittsford Township, Butler County, Iowa living with his parents: 1880: Henry Baedker 38, Edith Baedker 30, Henry Baedker 11, Edith Baedker 8, Minnie Baedker 6, Augusta Baedker 4, Wilhelm Baedker 2, Frank Baedker 1m. 1885: Henry Badker 43, Ida Beadker 35, Henry Beadker 15, Ida Beadker 12, August Beadker 8, William Beadker 4, Frank Beadker 4, Enna Beadker 2. The family left Butler County and moved to Winnebago County, IA. They are found in the 1900 census at Linden, Winnebago, Iowa: H F Boatker 58, Ida Boatker 51, Willie Boatker 21, Frank Boatker 19, Emma Boatker 16, Cora Boatker 14, Iona Boatker 7. Frank met and married Etta Martha Carothers on Jun 10, 1904 at Garner, Hancock, IA. The couple had 11 or possibly 12 children: Helen May, George Lewis, Emma Dean, Margaret Ione, Frank Albert, Mildred Francis, Doris Luetta, John Harold, William Henry, James Dale and Charles Wallace (none alive in 2011). Found in the 1905 census at Foxhome, Wilken, MN. with wife Etta and daughter Helen. Lived with or near Frank's uncle and aunt, William and Jennie Badker, according to census papers. Both men are employed as farmers. Frank filled out a registration card for the draft Sept 12, 1918. States his birth date as May 23, 1878...which does not match. He may have wanted to avoid being drafted as he had a wife and seven children at the time which he had to take care of. He was living in Deuel County, South Dakota. His occupation is stated as medicine wagon which may mean he transported and sold liquor which was abolished at that time. His older brother was running a tavern east of him near Foxhome, MN. It was the time of the Spanish Influenza outbreak and the start of the depression. Family found in the 1910 census at Center Grove, Dickinson, IA. Some of the children were born at Spirit Lake, Dickinson, Iowa: Frank Badker 30, Etta Badker 27, Helen Badker 6, Louis (George Lewis) Badker 4, Dean (Emma Dean) Badker 3, Babe Badker (Margaret Ione)1 month. Found in the 1920 census at Clear Lake Township, Deuel County, South Dakota, Ward 2. The record is on page 252 A - records # 45 -53; 126 A.: Frank J., 40 yrs, Iowa (birthplace); can read & write; occupation: salesman of patent medicine; Wife is Etta, 37, Iowa; Renting home. Children: Helen, 15, Iowa; George Lewis, 13, Minnesota; Emma Dean, 12, Iowa; Margaret, 10, Iowa; Frankie, 7, South Dakota; John, 3 yrs, 5 mos, South Dakota; William, 7 mos., South Dakota. Found in the 1930 census at Big Stone County, MN: Frank Bodker 50, Etta Bodker 46, Helen Bodker 25, George Bodker 24, Enmdson Bodker 22, Margaret Bodker 20, Frank Bodker 17, John Bodker 12, William Bodker 11, Jacques Bodker 10, Carles Bodker 8, Wallis Bodker 5/12. The census says Frank was working odd jobs. Margaret Ione is living w/ him as is her son Walter Harold who is listed as a Badker and she is listed as single. Margaret married Walter's father, Walter Hagan Sr. at some point after this although family records say they married 1929. In an obituary for Frank's sister, Emma, it says he lived in Ortonville, Big Stone County, Minnesota in 1930. George Lewis said his Dad was employed by a farm and implement business. Frank Joseph Badker died May 23, 1935 at Renville, Renville, Minnesota possibly from injuries suffered in an accident involving train cars. He is buried at the Grandview Cemetery, Gary, Deuel, South Dakota on the far west edge, near the field, opposite the entrance. Monument engraving says Frank A. Badker 1880-1935 and Etta Badker 1883-1938. Other people buried at this Badker plot are John Harold Badker (Frank's son); Leath Badker (John's second wife); Dolly Badker (presumed stillborn March 5, 1925, not sure who her parents were but she MAY be the 12th child of Frank and Etta); 3 other graves marked Badker with all three death dates of 1880 but no first names.
