All other rights reserved. HOT SPRINGS A prosperous and growing city in Fall River county, of which it is the county seat. Nature, aided by man, has certainly made this place one of the beauty spots of the state. The celebrated Hot Springs located here and from which the city derives its name, are said to be among the best medicinal springs in the United States. Their waters possessing wonderful curative powers in cases of rheumatism and kidney troubles. Here is located the Government National Sanitarium for Disabled Volunteer Soldiers, upon which the government has already expended in excess of one million dollars. Here also is located the Soldiers' Home for the State of South Dakota. There are also many private sanitariums maintained here, fitted with all the latest appliances known to medical science, and equipped with as fine staffs of physicians and surgeons as any similar institution in the country. Most of the buildings in the city are solid and substantial, being erected of sandstone, which is quarried near the city and shipped in large quantities to other cities and states for building purposes. The city has a full municipal government, good water works system, electric lighting and power plant, seven churches, three banks, two newspapers, adequate fire department, free public library, two railroads, viz., The Chicago, Burlington & Quincy and the Chicago & Northwestern. Has well graded streets and fine cement sidewalks. There are many large and commodious hotels as well as many private boarding houses. A well organized commercial club composed of live, energetic citizens who are doing much for the improvement of the city. Elevation 3,440 feet. Population 3,000 and rapidly increasing.
