Ellis PETER SCHMITT was born September 13, 1859, in Germany, and came to the United States the 26th day of March, 1881, and in March, 1886, came to Ellisville, South Dakota and located upon the south-west quarter of section 9, township 118, range 72, now Seneca and is now located on section 14 in the same township. Mr. Schmitt has experienced all the hardships of the average pioneer settler, but by remaining here, and by hard work, he has now a 320 acre farm, 160 acres improved and a good home. He has sixteen horses, seventy head of neat stock, thirty-five hogs, and all machinery necessary to carry on his farm. February 17th, 1890, he married Miss Leibrich and to them have been born the following children: Susanna, John, Gustave, Peter, Aloysius and Emnia May.
