Page 72 - 73 Information transcribed by Joy Fisher, http://www.rootsweb.com/~archreg/vols/00001.html#0000031 Alexandria While Rev. O. E. Murray was holding down a claim near here he was asked by members of our church to preach at Redstone. A class was organized with Walter Peck as leader. This was in the fall of 1882. Alexandria was organized a little later in the same fall. After the conference session Rev. W. Whitfield, the presiding elder, secured lots where the church now stands, and with his private means erected a chapel. Rev. W. H. Selleck, who had been appointed pastor, after a visit to Iowa, reached Alexandria November 14. The church grew rapidly, and soon the chapel was too small to meet the needs of the people, and during the pastorate of Rev. J. C. Shelland the chapel was purchased of Rev. Whitfield and changed into a parsonage. During the summer of 1884 Rev. Shelland superintended the erection of the church building, but was removed to another charge at the fall conference, and Rev. H. T. Curl, his successor, attended to the finishing of the church. During the pastorate of Rev. O. H. Sproul the society made permanent progress. Rev. T. H. Youngman is pastor at present.
