The churchhad beem tastily draped by a committee of the Woman's Relief Corps, a large portrait of General Grant hanging high above the pulpit, the altar being filled with flowers. Shortly after the hour appointed, E. O. C. Ord Post No. 29, G. A. R., followed by the Band of Hope marched to the church, after prayer by Chaplain Primmer the choir sang "He's Gone." Then followed the beautiful burial service of the G. A. R., at the conclusion of which after prayer by Rev. J. W. P. Jordan, the choir sang "Sleep, Comrade, Sleep." Rev. S. F. Huntley was then introduced and opened the exercises by reading the 139th Psalm, followed by prayer and the singing by the choir of "Farewell Father, Friend and Guardian." Mr. Huntley took as a text Hebrews 11:4 and preached a most excellent sermon, prominent in which was the sentiment, that Gen. Grant, though dead, yet speaketh. At the afternoon exercises Mrs. Dr. Hall read an eloquent essay on the life of the dead hero. She was followed by remarks by R. Y. Hazard, J. E. McNamara, D. Mitchell and J. R. Eddy, each testifying to the greatness of the man whose life had been given to his country and whose death had brought a nation to forget its past differences and bow in sorrow around his bier. Words of ours cannot add brilliance to the chaplet that from henceforth will crown the name of him who was of the people, who labored for the people and whose fitting monument will ever be a nations's grateful remembrance.
