Preston, Esq., returned from Wessington Springs Sunday, where he has been for the past week assisting in the preliminary prosecution of Logan Solomon for the murder of Rohbe. The trial was hotly fought on both sides, every effort being made by the defense to get their man discharged. He was put on the stand in his own behalf and told the same story as he did before the Coroner's jury. He claimed that he acted in self-defense, and showed a cut on one ear and a gash on his head where Rohbe struck before he shot. P.J. Brady and Frank Adams, of Mitchell, testified for the defense, showing that the murdered man had a quarrelsome disposition and that there had been trouble between the two men. The evidence was not quite satisfactory to the examining Justice, and Solomon was held to anaswer to the charge of murder. A Republican reporter had a short talk with the father of the accused last evening, and was given the facts as to the statement made in the papers that his son had killed a man before. Several years since, during Mr. Solomon's absence, burglars entered his house and were discovered by the son, then just out of college. A desperate encounter followed in which one of the burglars was killed. A coroner's jury examined into the facts and decided that the killing was justifiable. Mr. Solomon was about to start for Washington on a political mission when the news of his son's misfortunes reached him. He is a man of fine address, and feel deeply the trouble that has come upon him. This file has been created by a form at http://www.genrecords.org/sdfiles/ File size: 2.1 Kb
