In Memorium

    Near Wessington SPrings, Dakota, on Saturday night, Jan. 22nd, 1887, Emma,
beloved wife of Will Dixon.

    Emma Bretz was born in LaFayette county, Wis., Dec. 9th, 1860. Thus her
earthly life spans only 26 years, 1 month, 13 days. She was married near
Meriden, Iowa, to her now bereaved husband, Feb. 14, 1883. Mr. and Mrs. Dixon
moved to Dakota in the spring of 1883. She had been a member of the M. E. Church
six years. She knew in whom she believed and died happy in the Lord. "Death is
swallowed up in victory." A devoted wife, a loving mother, a true christian, a
faithful friend has left a home desolate and gone to her reward.

    The funeral sermon was preached from the text: "And I heard a voice from
heaven, saying unto me, Write, Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from
henceforth; Yea, saith the Spirit, that they may rest from their labors; and
their works do follow them." Rev. 14.13.
