He came to this country with his parents when eight years of age. While on the ocean his mother passed away, leaving him without the loving care and comfort of a mother at this early age. His father settled in Dane country, near Madison, Wis., where they lived for some time. In 1883 he was married to Betsey Dahlen. He and his wife spent the first six years of their married life near Stoughton, Wisconsin. Mr. Olson and family came to Kingsbury county, South Dakota, in 1888 and settled northeast of Oldham. Here they worked and made a home for themselves, sharing with the pioneers of their day many difficulties and hardships. On March 18, 1893, his wife was called from this vale of sorrow leaving him alone with his five children to mourn the loss of a kind and loving wife and mother. During the last seven years. Mr. Olson has made his home with his children. On Nov. 13, 1932, he passed away peacefully with faith in God and in his Saviour Jesus Christ. He had a lingering illness lasting about six weeks. He was 79 years 11 months and 5 days of age when he passed away. At this time he was staying at the home of his daughter Mrs. Nels E. Nelson. He was baptized as an infant in Norway and after coming to America was confirmed in his baptismal covenant, near Madison Wis. He was early a member of Oldham Lutheran church and remained a loyal and active member until his death. He leaves to mourn his death two daughters, Mrs. Clara Madson of Catawba, Wis. and Mrs. Ella Nelson of Ramona S.D., and one son Selmer of Lark, M.D. besides seven grandchildren. A son, Norman, died Sept. 8, 1913 at the age of 28 years, and an infant son Bert died at 4 months. He is also survived by four sisters and two brothers living at Stoughton, Wisconsin.
