The center of the celebrated Black Hills country known throughout the world for the richness of its gold deposits. Since 1876, the time of the first settlement, over $140,000,000 have been produced by the surrounding mines, with untold millions still in store awaiting the pick of the miner and the money of the capitalist. The city is lighted by electricity and gas, has telephone connections with every camp in the Black Hills country, water works, a good fire department, a public library, excellent schools, good church buildings (nearly every denomination represented). A Federal building costing over $200,000, a court house costing $110,000, an opera house costing $25,000, a hotel costing $125,000, extensive wholesale and retail business houses and all the requirements of an important city.
