James Anderson died at his home near Whitewood of cancer of the stomach after a lingering illness. Mr. Anderson came to the Hills in 1887, since which time he has operated one of the most extensive farms in this section. He was also well and favorably known at Deadwood, where he successfully conducted a hardware business several years. He enjoyed a large acquaintance and was generally loved for his true, noble and manly qualities. He was a member of the state legislature last winter, where he served with credit and honor to himself and his constituents. His funeral was conducted from his late home under the auspices of the I. O. O. F. Lodge, of which he was a prominent member."
