Mr. Lawrence received his early training in the public schools of Madison. After compleiting a four-years' high-school course, and devoting some time to teaching in the public schools, he entered the University of Wisconsin, from which institution he graduated with the degree of Bachelor of Letters. His course in Latin extended through a period of eight years. He has also taken a separate course in Norse literature. He accepted a call to the professorship of Latin and history at Augustana college in the fall of 1894.
