(1897) Author: Geo. Ogle & Co. Carl G. Lawrence was born at Madison, Wis., in 1871. His parents, both natives of Norway, were among the earliest settlers of Wisconsin. Mr. Lawrence received his early training in the public schools of Madison. After completing a four-years' high-school course, and devoting some time to teaching in the public schools, he entered the University of Wisconsin, from which institution he graduated with the degree of Bachelor of Letters. Prof. Lawrence entered the university with the particular aim of fitting himself for the teacher’s profession, and to that end has made an extensive study of pedagogy, psychology and such other branches as he intended to teach. His course in Latin extended through a period of eight years. He has also taken a separate course in Norse literature. He accepted a call to the professorship of Latin and history at Augustana college in the fall of 1894.
