Burial was in Mount Calvary cemetery by the Campbell Funeral Home.Rosary services were held on Tuesday evening. Born at Sturgis,Johnson began his highly successful business career as a clerk in the Commercial National Bank. In the space of twenty years, he had advanced his position to that of executive vice president. In 1929 he assumed the duties of president of the First National Bank of Rapid City,which position he maintained for ten years. Early in the year of 1940 he purchased the Buell Real Estate Insurance Agency,which shortly became the Walter H. Johnson Real Estate. A member of the Rotary, he served as secretary of the Sturgis chapter of which he was a charter member and as president of the Rapid City chapter.He was also a member of the Elks Lodge,service officer of the American Legion,on the Rapid City Commission.from 1941-44,and director of their Chamber of Commerce for nine years.He had been treasurer of the Mount Rushmore National Memorial Society of the Black Hills since 1942, and a United States Commissioner until 1954. He was a trustee of the Blessed Sacrament parish at the time of his death. While serving with the army during the first world war,he was married to Elizabeth Kelley at Houston,Texas.She preceded him in death in 1952. His survivors include a daughter,Louise Johnson of New York City; his mother Mrs.Irving Johnson;two sisters Mrs. Harry Blair and Mrs. Marion Middlebrook; two brothers Arthur and Clarence,all of Sturgis;and one brother,morris of Richmond,California.
