When Minnehaha County was created and organized by the legislature of 1S62 he was made county judge. He was killed. August 25, 1862, by hostile Indians while making hay, at about the present site of the penitentiary in Sioux Falls. His son, a lad of fifteen, was killed at the same time. Robinson, I, 204.
