He received a common school education, and then engaged in the grocery business, and in buying and sell stock. He came to Sioux Falls by stage from Yankton in April, 1878, and soon after opened a butcher shop, and engaged in buying and selling stock for twelve years. He then took up the real estate business, in which he still continues. He is a respected citizen.
