Death of Mrs. Geo. V. Ayers

The First White Person Born in Gage County Passes Away

(Special to The Express)
RAPID CITY, S. D., March 29 -- Mrs. George V. Ayers died in
this city at 5 o'clock yesterday evening. She was born in
Beatrice on August 15th, 1859, her maiden name being
Kate Towle. On April 23, 1885, she was married to George V.
Ayers, one of the prominent Black Hills  pioneers, and 
Past Grand Master of Masons in this state. Besides her
husband she leaves a son 6 years old. The body will be
send to Beatrice for interment.

[Mrs. Ayers was the daughter of Albert Towle better known
to all old settles [sic] as "Pap" Towle, one of the
original incorporators of Beatrice, and it's first
postmaster, and was the first white child born in Gage
county. She was well known to all old residents of the
city and county, who will receivge the news of her
death with sincere regret. She was a sister of Mrs.
J. B. Mrs. R. C. Davis, and Mrs. J. G. Davis, of this
city, still living, and Mrs. Jas. Saunders, late of
Reynolds, Thayer county, now deceased. 
   Mrs. J. B. Weston was summoned by telegraph, starting
for Rapid City Sunday evening, but arrived too late to
see her sister alive.--ED]
