  Atkinson, Mary Houston. First White child born in Dakota, at Fort Pierre,
January 8, 1857, daughter of Edward Graham Atkinson and his wife, Harriet
Leavenworth. She was thus the granddaughter of both General Henry Atkinson and
General Henry Leavenworth, who a generation earlier had been important in Dakota
affairs. She is Mother Superior of the Sacred Heart Convent, Chicago.
