Book Title: Doane Robinson's Encyclopedia Of South Dakota

  Ammonites. A plate-shaped shell of the Cretaceous, having very complicated
sutures. They are found generally in the western portion of the State, varying
in size from two inches to twelve inches or more in diameter. They have
beautiful pearly spots upon them.
