A result of the Granger movement in 1874 was developed in an anti-monopoly party, which held a convention at Elk Point, August 20, 1874. After some deliberation it nominated W. A. Burleigh for Congress; they failed in an attempted fusion with the Democrats, who were in convention at the same time and place.
