Book Title: Doane Robinson's Encyclopedia Of South Dakota

  "Army, Ten Years in the U. S." A valuable book by Augustus Meyers, a wealthy
citizen of New York, who was a musician in Harney's army at Fort Pierre, 1855 to
1857. The book modestly but faithfully records his experiences. The hard winter
of 1855-56 was spent in a cantonment on Peoria Bottom, northwest of Pierre. He
was with Lyon in building Fort Lookout and gives the only account of that
enterprise.
