(1897) Author: Geo. Ogle & Co. ALBERT G. NEWBY, one of the most successful and prominent stock raisers and general farmers in Turner county, resides in section 8, Parker township, where he has a fine farm of 160 acres. He was born in Lee county, Iowa, March 27, 1851, and is the second child of I. H. and Catherine (Hoskins) Newby, who came to Iowa in 1853 and settled in Lee county. Mr. Newby was reared in his native county, where he lived till his marriage. This event occurred April 1, 1872, when he led to the altar Miss Esther P. Sperry, also a native of Lee county, Iowa, and the following year he came with his young wife to Turner county, Dak. Ter. He located in Finlay, what is now Parker township, entering 160 acres as a homestead, which he improved and brought to a high state of cultivation. In 1893 he sold out and purchased the farm which he at present makes his home. He is located one mile north of the town of Parker, where he carries on a general farming and live stock business. He and his brother, I. H. Newby, who lives in Parker, are large shippers of stock, and during the winter they feed about 160 head of cattle and 175 head of hogs. Mr. and Mrs. Newby are the parents of eight children, four sons and four daughters, viz.: Frank, Grace, Maurice, Fred, Jessie, Ray, Nellie and Katie. All the children reside at home, and were all born in Turner county, with the exception of the eldest, Frank. Mr. Newby is a member of the A. O. U. W. and the Farmers' Alliance. Politically he votes the Republican ticket, and religiously is a Baptist, both he and his wife being members of that denomination.
