Harriet Elizabeth Swanson, 91, of Alcester died Thursday, Dec. 26, 1996, at 
Sioux Valley Hospital in Sioux Falls, S.D., following a brief illness.

Services were held Tuesday, Dec. 31 at Union Creek Lutheran Church in rural 
Akron, Iowa, with the Rev. William Flemr officiating. Burial was in the Union 
Creek Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Justin, Kelley, and Charles Ball, Kent, Patrick, and Jeremy 
Van Wyhe.

Mrs. Swanson was born Feb. 16, 1905, in Breckenridge, Mo., to Hiriam and Anna 
(Pratt) Kelley. She married Richard E. Ball on June 23, 1929. He died on Nov. 
3, 1972. She married Stanley R. Swanson on Feb. 19, 1978. He died in April 
1995. She resided at the Morningside Village and then at her daughter's home 
in Sioux Falls.

She was a member of Union Creek Lutheran Church and the Alcester Senior 
Citizens.

Survivors include one son and his wife, Richard E. "Pat" and Audrey Ball of 
Citrus Heights, Calif.; one daughter and her husband. Sharon Van Wyhe and John 
Paulson of Sioux Falls; two stepchildren. Carolyn Saugstad of Alcester, and 
Robert Swanson of Casper. Wyo.; one brother, 'Charles Kelley of Cameron, Mo.; 
one sister, Carrie Bohlen of Akron; ten grandchildren; and " 17 great 
grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two brothers/Claude and Bob; two sisters, Doris 
and Ethel Louise; and a son, James.
