All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/sd/sdfiles.htm ************************************************ File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by: Joy Fisher sdgenweb@yahoo.com May 4, 2007, 2:07 am Author: Doane Robinson Armstrong, Moses K., 1832-1906; fourth delegate in Congress from Dakota Territory; born in Milan, Ohio, September 19; graduate of Western Reserve College; civil engineer; settled at Yankton, 1859; member of legislatures of 1862, 1863, 1866 and 1867; was speaker of the house in 1863 and president of the council in 1867; he was elected to congress in 1871 and served until 1875, after which he settled in the banking business in St. James, Minnesota, where he spent the remainder of his life. Perhaps his best service was to history. In 1866 he published a brief history of Dakota, and in 1901 under the title "Early Empire Builders of the Great West," he republished it in an attractive volume of 456 pages, including with it extensive correspondence he had written in the early days from Dakota to eastern papers, especially giving close up views of the first legislature.
