When the Arnold Family Association of the South was established, it was done so with the following purpose: "The purpose of the Arnold Family Association of the South is to bring into contact with one another all those who are researching Arnold and allied families, who either originated in the South, or came through it and stayed long enough to leave records. We hope to do this by publishing an Arnold Family Magazine, Quarterly, which will contain records of a private and public nature on the local, state, and national level. Our ultimate purpose is to publish an Arnold Family History containing as many branches of the Arnold Family as can be documented. To this purpose the Arnold Family Historian- Genealogist will accept, evaluate, file, preserve, and possibly publish records as they are received." The last AFAS Newsletter was published in 1984. Since then, Arnold family genealogists have continued their research, and a lot of information has been gathered that was not included in any of the AFAS Newsletters. We beleieve that it is time to revive the spirit of the Arnold Family Association of the South, and begin accepting properly documented family histories and source material for publication on this site. Compilations of source material should be data that is gathered through individual research. Care must be taken to honor copyrighted material. Some examples of acceptable information would be wills, deeds and civil records gathered at court houses, surveys of cemeteries, and pension records. Family histories should be narrative in nature, with the sources which document the lineage included within the narrative. Reports generated by genealogical software normally do not meet the criteria for publication. Information that is submitted for evaluation will be reviewed by a panel which consists of ex-members of the Arnold Family Association of the South. Ann Arnold Hennings will be the chair of this panel. Submitted information should either be in Rich Text Format (.rtf), or in pure ASCII text (.txt). All current word and text processors can save and read documents in these formats. Please send information that you would like to share to Ann Hennings at: hennings@shentel.net
