Al]. contributions for publica- tion or comments to the Editor, Mrs. Hazel Arnold MacIvor, should be sent to the above address, Purpose: The purpose of the Arnold Family Association of the South is to bring into contact with one another all those who are researching Arnold and allied families, who either originated in the South, or came through it and stayed long enough to leave records. We hope to do this by publishing an Arnold Family Magazine, Quarterly, which will contain records of a private and public nature on the local, state, and national level, Our ultimate purpose is to publish an Arnold Family History containing as many branches of the Arnold Family as can be documented. To this purpose, the Arnold Family Historian-Genealogist will accept, evaluate, file, preserve, and possibly publish records as they are received. Publications: The Arnold Family Association at present publishes only its Quarterly. Other publications will be announced as they are projected. Membership: All individuals regardless of surname, libraries or societies may apply for membership, which is on a yearly basis, beginning on 1 August of one year to 31 July of the next year, Membership dues are $8.00 annually. Member- ship entitles one to receive the Association’s Quarterlies free of charge. Quarterlies are $2.50 each, as long as they last. All members, other than Libraries or Societies, are required to complete applications and fill in pedigree charts to earliest—known ancestor. Requests should be made to Ann A. Hennings, 6600 Placid Street, Falls Church, Virginia, 22043. Please make check or money order to Arnold Family Association of the South. No cash, please. Holdings: The Arnold Family Association will place all of its records, publica- tions, books, etc. in the hands of its Historian-Genealogist. In the event of his/her death, the surviving officers will decide the place of repository. Genealogical Inquiries: The Arnold Family Association keeps a record of all members’ surnames in its files, Members will be furnished upon request, if accompanied by a self—addressed, stamped envelope, the names and addresses of others working on similar families, It will also furnish lists of genealogists (in most cases supplied by Archives in Southern states), but it cannot assume responsibility for nor guarantee the nature and accuracy of work done by any such genealogist. Editorial Policy: Neither the Editor, or the Arnold Family Association of the South and/or the members of the Editorial Staff, assume any responsibility for error of fact, or opinion, expressed by contributors. It is our earnest desire to publish only reliable source material of a genealogical nature, Materials for publication are welcome and should be sent to the Editor. Please type such materials or send xerox copies of original records. 144 From the Editor’s Pen: You will note that we have dropped all regular columns this quarter in the interest of bringing you the complete Arms to Ash issue of Frederick Virkus' s Magazine of American Genealogy. Though full of errors, still it is of value in the clues it provides for Arnold searchers. Since this material originally appeared in one issue, we felt it would be of the greatest assistance to our membership to present it as a whole. We hope you enjoy it. This issue completes our third full year as an Association, It has been three good years, filled with many rewards, Some of our hardest-working, most tireless members make possible the Quarterlies, the indices and the Family Group Record Sheet Program. One member of our unpaid staff is Marian Carter Ledgerwood of Houston, Texas. She not only assumes the task of typing up each issue of the quarterly, but does all of the indexing as well. She was ably assisted by our President, Mr. Edwin A. Arnold, until his serious illness last summer. We are sure that the membership wants to keep on enjoying the Quarterlies and the indices, but handling both jobs alone is getting to be too much for Marian, She must have help with the indexing. This is a job that does not require any particular skill, and no typing is involved. It would be a shame for all our noble efforts to go under for want of volunteers to keep us going. Won’t you write Marian today and tell her you will assist with the indexing? Wanda Arnold has now finished 469 pages of Pedigree Charts and Family Group Record sheets. They have been mailed to the Editor, who has filed them in four identical notebooks: Volume I, 111 pages, contains all the Arnolds; Volume II, 109 pages, contains records of Bailey to Edwards. Volume III, 110 pages, contains records of Faulkner to Isaacson; Volume IV, 129 pages, contains records of Jones to White. Many persons sent pictures and other documents to be included in the Volumes. They make a nice addition. A special thanks to Wanda Arnold for all her effort and for the beautiful work she has produced. There are still some per- sons who have not sent their family group sheets or their pedigree charts, so get going. Don’t be left out of this important program. Our issues will all be set back by one issue because of the Virkus Material taking up an issue all its own. Look for our Sue Alexander Papers issue, Novem- ber 1st, our Spillers-Dean BAR Library issue, February 1, 1974, and our Ancestors and Some of the Descendants Benjamin Arnold, d. Greenville, South Carolina, 1796, next May 1st (1974). Our next issue will be a continuation of a conglomeration of records, and so still a "Potpourri of Arnolds". It will have records of Arnolds from Alabama to West Virginia. The renewal slip for your membership is the last page in this issue. Fill it in and mail it today to insure your free index. God bless and keep you all. Hazel Arnold MacIvor, Editor. 145 DERIVATION OF SURNAMES (From The Magazine of American Genealogy, Number 8, March 1930. Arms — Ash. Pages 45-46, 47.
