65-12-11 Mexico Mo Dec 11, 1865 Mr. A & Mrs. E. Damrell from W. W. Powell Dear Grandfather & Mother Although a great while has past since I saw you I will assure you that you are not yet forgotten by me, I have had a great many difficulties and hard times but have got through safe at last and have very good health. I got home the 29th of September and have been satying with Grand Father Powell ever since. Everything has changed so very much that this does not seem like home. The people all appear so distant and so little socialbility. I does look like our country is forever ruined and that we never shall have a happy country like we once had. I have no news of importance to write. George & mary Bybee have returned from Illinois. I think they are doing very well. I got a letter from Anna a few days ago she was well. Jimmie has gone to Texas with Uncle Alven. Will Waynes was telling me that you wanted me to come and live with you. if you do write and tell me the best you can do before I make my arrangements to stay here next season. For the present I will close. Give my kindest regards to all and in particular to Lizzie and tell her if she dont marry soon she will be too late. Please answer soon. From you affectionate Grandson W. W. Powell (His mother is Margaret Damrell married to William Powell)
