Dear Granmother we resceived your very kind letter this morning.  We wad glad 
to hear from you.  your kind leetter found us al well.  I hope this will find 
you all the same.  Pa and my self went to sunday school and to church today. 
hurd a good sermon.  I would like very much to see you all once more.  If we 
was able we would make you a visit but we are not.  Elizza Norton has bin to 
see us.  we have not seen Bud for a month.  they are all well.  we got a 
letter from E in tha not long since they are all well.  I am going to send you 
some piece of my dess .  I forgot it last time.  I have bin going to school 
there is no school next week.  write soon no more at present goodby Alice 
Canterbury.

Dear Father and Mother  we resiew your vare kind a welcom letter yesterday 
which gave grait satisfaction.  it found us well as common.  I hop thees few 
lines may find yo al the same.  Mothe i was glad to see so mulch of your hair. 
 I will send some of my hair.  it come out after I had tifoid feve.  you will 
see the length of it as Aly a her pa rote awl the nuse. I have not mulch to 
rite so I will say excuse this scrap for this time.  give my love to all the 
friends a larg sher for your self.  kiss the children for their aunt  Ruhamah

Dear Grand Pa and Ma, I thought I should write you a few lines.  I cannot 
write much.  I am going to School.  maybe I can write better after awhile

St Helena NapCo Ca Nov 9 1871  dear gran p an ma I take my pen in hand to rite 
you a few lines to let you no that I am well.  I have been haling wood to day. 
 I weigh 165  I think California is a hard place fore a pore man if he dont 
open his eyes he will get in a snap   I have kill to deer this sumer one I 
sold one fore four dollars it is geting late and must bring my letter to a 
close.
